Baseball Hitting Advertising Claims

I normally don't let the advertising email I get from other baseball sites bother me.  Unfortunately I've seen a change in tactics by many sites that I simply don't like.  I have received a number of emails over the past few months that seem to have the goal of making you feel stupid or that you're doing the wrong thing by training and providing drills in a certain way.  Recently I've received an email with the subject of "Never do soft toss!" and another one "Throw away your batting tees".

I understand that people are in business and want to sell you something.  I get it, I really do but I'm also very protective of the coaching community where we have thousands of people that each volunteer hundreds of hours for their local community.   What I find irritating is when these emails make claims like those stated above and really never give you a valid reason why you shouldn't do what their claim is.  Let me take you through the "Throw away your batting tees" email.  After the attention grabbing subject comes the two following statements before the sales pitch:
  • "They are one of the biggest wastes of time when it comes to hitting training."
  • "Let's start with the obvious...Do golfers hit balls thrown at them?"
So if you believe those two statements then for 60% off the normal price you can find out why.

You've got to be kidding!  What does the golfing analogy have to do with anything?  That's the best argument you have for why I shouldn't have my players hit off a tee.  Really makes the first statement seem important as well.  But the lousy advertising pitch is really not the point.  The point is that there may be new coaches who have been using a batting tee station and a soft-toss station in their practices and after receiving an email like this may think they no longer have those stations and drills.  They may be compelled to purchase this video for the same reason.

Now I have nothing against improving my coaching and training methods but I refuse to purchase products based on advertising that tries to make me feel stupid or that I'm harming kids because I'm coaching in a certain way.  I hope you don't either.  Make these companies give you something concrete on why they have a better system.  If they do, great, but they are not building any trust with this type of advertising.  So here is my advertising pitch for why you should use a batting tee and why you should use soft-toss:

*************
NEW BATTING TEE and SOFT-TOSS VIDEOS
Two new videos will be published soon that address the benefits of using a batting tee and soft-toss to teach hitting fundamentals.  Learn the key aspects of using these hitting aids and drills to help players develop important muscle memory for improved performance.

Now I'm going to offer both of these videos to you for 60% off my normal price of ZERO!  That's a total price of FREE!!!

This offer will be available for as long as these videos are hosted on my site, so don't rush to buy them before midnight because they will be available for FREE for a long time.
*************

That's my pitch.  Not very flashy or exciting (I did use 3 different colored fonts though).  As an extra incentive, I'm offering up the fact that if you don't like them you can stop watching so you don't have to invest any more of your time.  In all seriousness, I do hope the videos will be informative and helpful and I hope to have them posted soon.  So stay tuned for those videos!!!

I do hope that you'll take the time to pass on my blog link to anyone in your coaching community who you think would be interested.

On a personal note, I haven't posted for awhile because I had an appendicitis in October and I am scheduled for another related surgery in December.  So posts may be a little spotty for the next couple of months but hopefully will pick up in late January and into the spring.
